At the end of the season Stone fruit go into rest, they translocate minerals and carbohydrates from the leaves to the roots and other parts of the tree as reserves. The leaves change colour and fall off. These reserves will be used in the spring for good flowering and fruit set. The trees also need winter cold for certain important processes take place in the plant. When enough cold units are accumulated in winter and good reserves were accumulated, the trees bloom more uniform, give bigger blossoms and bigger leaves that give healthier fruit of better quality.
